Sanjay Dutt, should thank his stars, his father and sister for being free today. He should be grateful to be still working in movies. But then a jailbird cannot be happy to be just free, as is the custom in our country now, every term serving criminal steps into politics, and so does he. This man possessed an AK-56 for heaven's sake. He was aware of the 1993 blasts before they happened, but did not inform the police, so that it could be prevented. We are letting someone like that contest for responsibilities, involving the lives of many? Does this man have no shame, no remorse, no conscience?
I believe that every person should be given a second chance. I hope that Sanjay Dutt has put his bad ways behind him and is starting up afresh. He is back into films big time, has even got his own production house now, and that according to me is more than just a second chance. But obviously he does not think that's enough, and wants to now enter politics, in spite of being convicted under TADA at one point of time. Greed and immorality is what I see in this. Total and complete. Come on, you have to have some amount of sense of shame at your deeds Mr. Dutt.
Fortunately for us, the law does not enable him to contest the Lok Sabha elections, based on his current legal position. And we can only thank our lawmakers for that, because in a country where the vote banks can easily be persuaded, and would be rather moved to see a film star requesting for their votes, the law is the only way to stop them. But that is definitely not enough, because we have the great Mr. Amar Singh claiming they would get Mrs. Sanjay Dutt to contest the elections, if not teh man himself. This is a democracy, not a monarchy, where power shifts the hands in a family for heaven's sake. See this video, and hear him claim that Sanjay Dutt should be allowed to contest the elections just because Siddhu has been. And anyways, what credentials do either Sanjay Dutt or his wife posses to be Lok Sabha representatives of a constituency. Moreover, how can they contest from just about anywhere??
Is it not purely pathetic to sit and hear this nonsense, a person claiming someone's (who has a criminal record) right to contest in elections, based on some other person(again with a criminal record) who has done it.Isn't it sad that we the citizens cannot really do anything about it, but just sit and watch. A country where one person with a criminal record makes it into a position of power, and then he is held as a shining example for others to follow, in our faces, openly and blatantly. It is time for some major legal upgrading I think. If legal offenders are the ones sitting positions of power, how far and till where can we expect to take our country? Are we really surprised by our security vulnerabilities the?

If searched properly, above 90% politicians will come out to be criminal of some sort or other.
So there's no shock in Sanjay or Manyata's entry specially when Priya Dutt is already an active politician. Basically it doesn't matter.
When Phoolan Devi could be an MP, when Mayawati, Uma Bharti , Lalu, Mulayam Singh, Sonia, Advani, Prakash Karat etc can be M.P, what's wrong/new with Sanjay being a member? There's not much difference. Government is synonym of tyranny and taxation is nothing but loot. So a new Munnabhai Politician is entering in the gang.
It's our fault for letting it happen. We don't protest loudly enough, strongly enough or long enough.
We need very serious Electoral Reforms. The Election Commission had written a letter to the PM ( M M Singh in 2004) and suggested some electoral reforms, no action has been taken. Many petitions have made no difference either. Ruling party, opposition all unite when it comes to any reforms of this sort!
Unpretentious - I agree with the facts you have stated, but we cannot say its okay. We have to say its wrong, mean it, and fight against it. The political system is already badly infected, it just means we have that much more to do, to clean it up, but its high time we act up, and not accept it.
M4 - Agree wholly and completely.
IHM - What else can we expect of those cowardly, power misusing crooks? But it is just getting too much now, we do need to do something.
Well, i never loved Sachin Tendulkar as much as I enjoyed Ajay jadeja's cricket talents.
I remember Jadeja was charged under match fixing scandal along with Hansie Cronje and at the same time Lalu Prasad Yadav was also charged in "Pashu Chara ghotala".
BCCI being a private enterprise, punished Jadeja. I wonder if betting, bribing, match fixing is really that a big crime as stealing public';s money and embezzling it directly through hawala.
Yet jadeja faced an end for his career, lalu faced railway ministry.
See, my point is simple, its not like it is NOW HIGh time to do something, it always was. And its not like we did not tried, but we can do nothing.
What we can try for is to strengthen and demand for property rights, to defend our liberty. Voting can never be the fundamental right. Since we cannot stop crooks and corrupt entering politics, we should look for other alternative, and the other alternative is to reduce the power of government, to liberate individual indians. Why to let them embezzle our hard earned money and our resources? Deny letting them waste our honesty our hardwork, our productivity.
India and Indian individuals are not poor or weak or unintelligent or unproductive, Indian system, government indian constitution is what makes us poor less productive and embezzled.
its not like we can wait some honest leader entering politics and doing good things. nah, government and bureaucracy is a system which can adulterate any honest person.
Even now in current phase, there's a scandal being discussed highly, the SATYAM scandal. We all know that the money which has been stolen by raju will be payed back to the shareholders either by bankruptcy of Raju's assets, or by the bankruptcy and merging of SATYAM with any other IT company, the workers and the shareholders of satyam won't be suffering much, and may be satyam will stand alone by itself again as a winner. That is, a corrupt person did crime, he is caught and he has already been Punished.
yes Raju has been punished. he lost all his market value, noone is gonna trust him for business ever again, his career ended three days ago forever.
But was Lalu PRasad yadav ever punished, is there any chance for punishment in punishment of any embezzlement case of welfare state? No we cannot punish them. Although these crooks will again come back as mp, mla, even ministers, to decide our fate. So why not reduce their power to write our fate?
Unpretentious - What you say makes sense in a way, but there is a possibility that it may lead to mayhem. I agree every bit with you when you say, no matter what the crime, these crooks come back into their seat of power. I would want to root these people out, I think what we require are big time change in legislation regarding eligibility to contest elections, and hold seats of power.
