We are nearing the completion of three months since the terrorist attack on Bombay, and what do we have in hand? A BIG FAT nothing. The country is just sitting there making a big joke out of itself. It is not just sad, it is humiliating really. We have a live terrorist in hand, who is alive and unpunished, and believe you me, I will not be surprised if he is eventually handed over to Pakistan, and ends up living till a ripe old age. Yes, that is how much faith I have in our government.
India is no longer an independent republic, which can protect itself. We need to offer the results of investigations to every other country in the world, and await their approval to defend our soil and people. Knowing who is behind the gruesome act is not enough. We sit and talk. What faith do I ever have on my government which sits and does absolutely nothing after such a huge act against its people, on its soil. It is just shameful.
Will this again be a repeat of the '93 Bombay blasts, where the victims and their families had to wait for fourteen long years for any sign of justice? India and Pakistan seem to be in a shouting match, which would be hilarious, if it were not so deplorable. The security of our country has been breached, openly, publicly and humiliatingly, and we do nothing. All the cries of let us not forget this are well forgotten, and we move on as always, because we don't have a choice. The government as usual sits with its hands in its lap, and issues meaningless statements from time to time. Pakistan sits smug knowing no one or nothing is going to hurt them. So will you be surprised if the very same attack is carried out again, even tomorrow?
The fact that Pakistan has the audacity to demand that the captured terrorist be handed over to them itself speaks volumes. This man walked into our country, openly killed people on our soil, and then another country who refused to so much as even accept he is a citizen of their nation, demands him being handed over.(For people who will disagree, yes they have not yet asked, but have said they may, and I will hardly blink my eyes if they do!) This has to be a nightmare, a big fat joke. What is happening with the investigation? Is it not yet complete? If yes, then why are we still waiting, why is there no action? Why are the guilty not being persecuted, why is it not being made clear to the world that India will not tolerate such violation of its safety and security ever again? Or is India waiting for someone else to fight its battle?
As long as we are ready to remain sitting ducks, who never retaliate, and never learn, there is not much better we can hope for. As citizens of the country, we can never be sure that we are safe. Sad, shameful and disgusting!

Nothing is being done because Indians were involved...Suddenly, the Indian connection has been hushed up Congress style...Elections are round the corner and the government doesn't want to anger the Muslim population...The Congress depends on their votes...
Bones - really? It has been revealed? Such a massive attack could never have taken place without insider help ofcourse. Was it in the news? Do you have any links for this? i would really love to know more.

And on top of that Pakistan has Taliban marching in ... and very indirectly in India also.
Its pretty silly @ "cover up". This is quite NAIVE statement "We need to offer the results of investigations to every other country in the world, and await their approval to defend our soil and people." !!! I'd suggest read up bit more about Pakistan, FATA, politics in Pakistan, US reaction etc etc .. this is NOT as simple as killing Kasab or going to war with Pakistan. Its much complicated. US "reacted" but what has it fetched it except expense of multi-billion dollar monthly expense? Okay u may say US hadn't been bombed but then its more because of it geographic distance and enormity of logistics which will get involved NOT really because they have done what they have done.
So I am happy that govt is treading with caution. Pakistan is not like just another country; with its political un-stability, things are very very complex

Actually it IS very simple, protection and safety of its citizens needs to be of prime importance to the government of any country. It is great that US is spending that much to safeguard itself. Commendable. And because it has done what it has, nothing untoward has happened there since 9/11. Just imagine what India has gone through in the last year alone in terms of terrorist attacks. If you live in India, you are not safe, I hope you realise that. Or are you assured of no more terrorist attacks on the innocent Indian citizens?
hey,excellent post! And yes, I wouldnt be surprised either if Kasab is handed over to the Pak govt. Infact it should happen sometime soon. Now that the Pak govt has arrested Lakhvi and made a huge global show of it, I can almost see the Indian govt running to touch their feet!Such is the sorry state of affairs. Secondly, I agree with Bones here. The govt is doing nothing because there are Indians involved and high profile ones at that. How else do you think a mission of this magnitude gets pulled of as easily as a 4 year old ties his shoe-lace? The Maharashtra fishing union or whatever they call themselves, had sent a written petition to the govt,giving info on this attack a few days before it happened. The fat asses just sat on it. When it was brought to public notice, what did they do? Zilch. Nada. They still happen to be sitting on their fat asses. Not only this, even the FBI repeatedly gave them intelligence reports of an impending attack weeks before it happened. The govt conveniently turned a deaf ear(and blind eyes too) to this. Why do you think they did it? I feel so enraged. I`m telling you,mark my words GM, that Kasab guy will be handed over to the Pak govt. Just wait and watch!

GM, All this nautanki happening around election time. I don't trust politicians of both countries. Both have used their citizens for long for this vote bank and looks like it won't stop in near future too.

Piper - You are most welcome to take as much space as you want, and vent out. It is indeed infuriating, the condition of things in India. There is definitely insider help in this, and that might be a big reason why nothing is being done. The politicians in India would sell their souls for money happily.

yes the govt should proceed cautiously seeing how pakistan is a bomb waiting to explode...but so cautiously??

How about just listing 5 actions India should take? Also list likely expense, outcome and how the action can resolve the "terrorism" problem?

Question 2 - Do have any idea of the figures spent on our defence budget? What is the need when there is no defence. That will ensure enough bread for everyone in your opinion i think.

I think all your questions are sooooooo naive! If you think no terror attacks have happened in US is due to its ruining two countries; you are highly mistaken! The only reasons are geography and logistics. Don't you think Israel is doing any less than US about terrorism but they are still fighting day in day out; miserably failing. So Q, Does India want to be in state like Israel? Take wrong violent steps and trying to fortifying the country? [ which geographically and logistically impossible]. Sadly we can't be in state like US without divine intervention like major earthquake driving us away to pole or something.
I feel extremely irritated by ur statements because you offer NO solution, just gripe!
So whats YOUR grand plan eh? Capture whole of Pakistan and let that be a festering wound like J&K?
If you read my second post, I said I do NOT want to debate. There is nothing to debate with complains!! IF you had a solution we could debate. Anyways, I think your viewpoint is quite boring.
